May 18 2013 – Beeld newspaper writes that Johan van Wyk’s in-laws, Bronkhorstspruit farmers Les and Gayle Adlam, 67 and 63, were attacked and tortured with hot irons. Van Wyk said that the five-year-old girl – their adopted daughter – grabbed a flashlight and ran away after she was beaten. “I found her wandering next to the road,” he said. The child also was beaten by the farm -attackers, said Van Wyk. “They demanded money.
They took R10 000, 3 firearms and ammunition. The men tortured the couple with hot irons and bashed them with an iron object.’ Mr Adlam has been admitted in very serious condition to hospital with a cracked skull. The Adlam couple’s daughter Claire van Wyk 32 wrote on her Facebook page: “Please pray for mom and dad. Assaulted in farm attack on Balmoral road. My dad’s condition is very bad.’
A few hours later she wrote: “My mom is very blued and sore but no fractures. My dad does not have bleeding on the brain, but about all his facial bones are cracked and he has not regained consciousness. The men went into the farm house, went to their bedroom, woke them up and tied them up. They demanded money, took R10,000, three firearms and ammunition and burnt them with hot irons and beat them with a metal object’.
