(Hannes) VOORHEEN ONGERAPPORTEERDE VOORVAL: ELDERLY WOMAN BRUTALLY ATTACKED
By Janine van der Riet 2013-05-03 12:17
A woman’s cries, screams and pleading still haunt the man who saved her from an attacker on the cliff path near Voëlklip. Mathilde le Roux (64) has been walking the cliff path at Langbaai, near her house in Kwaaiwater, for the past 24 years without any danger until early Sunday morning, 21 April.
She was on the cliff path at 07:30 when she heard footsteps behind her and turned around to look.
“He looked me straight in the eyes,” she says of the attacker. “I was about to continue walking, but he took a iron bar that he was holding and hit me directly in my face.” As she fell to the ground, he hit her in the face again and blood was streaming from her face. She screamed out in horror.
He had not said a word to her and was about to hit her a third time with the iron bar when 39-year old Karel Retief who had heard Le Roux’s screams came running around the corner. As he ran, he yelled at the attacker who immediately sped off.
